Yes, according to experts, this is the result of the massive anger and annoyance from its customers against Go Daddy for supporting SOPA.
According to Hitechanalogy:
So it seems that the bloggers and web site owners registered with Go Daddy have decided to blacklist the company and to do a wide-spread boycott by fleeing from the company to the other domain registering and hosting firms. Initially, Go Daddy expressed that its support for SOPA would have a little bit impact on its business, but the latest huge figure of 37000 sites within only two days shows that they have totally failed to assess the possible loss of domains as a very bitter response of bloggers.
After this response from its customers GoDaddy take back its statement. Warren Adelman CEO Go Daddy said in its statement; “Go Daddy will support it when and if the Internet community supports it.”
According to SayPeople, reports said that;
15,000 domains were transferred to other registrar on Thursday and 21,054 domains were transferred on Friday. If we consider $6.99 to $10.99 of fees to each domain, than it is obvious that the company has lost a huge amount of money. However, it is interesting to note that on Thursday more domains were transferred to Go Daddy than left i.e. 17,000 came to Go Daddy as compared to 15,000 left.
SOPA suggest the law to both U.S. government and copyright holder, that they can go to courts against those websites or blogs “linked with encroaching, pirating and/or forging intellectual property.”
SOPA truly effects on internet and domains workability. SOPA might significantly change the way we use the World Wide Web.
